CBN Governor Hosts WTO Chief, Okonjo-Iweala in Abuja

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, on Thursday received the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on a working visit to the Bank’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, according to a statement posted on the CBN’s official X handle, centred on trade-related matters and Nigeria’s participation in global trade frameworks.
“The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, welcomed the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on a working visit to the CBN Head Office, Abuja, on Thursday, August 14, 2025,” the statement read.
Also present at the discussions were the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the WTO, Ambassador (Dr.) Adamu Abdulhamid.
Details of the talks were not immediately disclosed, but the engagement is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s alignment with international trade policies and explore avenues to boost the country’s global competitiveness.
This visit comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to deepen economic reforms, diversify exports, and enhance its role in international trade.
