Tinubu Subtly Reshuffles NTA Leadership, Appoints New DG, Top Executives

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has quietly approved a major leadership shake-up at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), ushering in a fresh management team in what insiders describe as part of a broader media realignment strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a Politics Nigeria exclusive, the President has appointed Rotimi Pedro as the new Director-General of NTA. Alongside him, Karima Bello will serve as Executive Director, Marketing, while Stella Din has been named Executive Director, News. Sophia Essahmed has been appointed Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited. Although the appointments have not yet been formally announced in a press statement, sources within the presidency confirmed the changes and suggested they are aimed at modernising NTA’s operations, strengthening its competitiveness, and aligning its editorial direction more closely with the administration’s priorities.

This move follows earlier interventions in NTA’s structure. In September 2024, Tinubu appointed seven new Executive Directors to key departments, including News, Finance, Programme, Engineering, Marketing, Administration and Training, and Special Duties. Then in March 2025, he named Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, as Board Chairman of the broadcaster, part of a wider round of board appointments across federal agencies.

While those earlier changes focused on executive oversight and governance, the latest reshuffle places new figures directly at the helm of NTA’s day-to-day operations. Political observers note that the decision to implement the changes quietly, without the usual media fanfare, may be a calculated move to manage public attention while the administration prepares for the next electoral cycle.

The appointments are expected to shape the direction of Nigeria’s state broadcaster in the coming years, both in terms of content and strategic positioning in the country’s competitive media space.
