Sophisticated Project Wins Top FIRS Honour

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has honoured Arabirin Aderonke Atoyebi with its prestigious Executive Chairman’s Award, the highest recognition within the organisation, in acknowledgment of her exceptional contributions to the agency’s success in the 2024 tax year.

Out of more than 13,000 staff members, she was one of four nominees alongside Munir Muhammed, Michael Adoga, and Aishat Bashir Tukur and was selected as the recipient of this prestigious honour.

Arabirin Aderonke’s recognition is particularly notable as she joined the organisation in March 2024, and within less than a year, distinguished herself through diligence, focus, and exceptional results.

In particular, her role in enhancing the visibility and communication of FIRS initiatives has stood out. She has authored several influential articles that align public engagement with the agency’s strategies and reforms.

In a piece published in ‘Leadership newspaper’ titled “Embrace Tax Compliance, Atoyebi Urges Nigerians”, she reframed tax payment as a civic duty, noting:
“I have seen it happen over and over again. Someone needs a loan… only to find that their tax records or lack of them are standing in the way.” Her message underlines how compliance supports broader financial and reputational benefits.

She also authored a widely circulated explainer in ‘Daily Post’ on the recently signed tax reform laws, demystifying complex legislative changes under the headline “Know your new tax laws”.

The write-up spelled out key elements such as the Nigeria Tax Act and the Joint Revenue Board Act helping citizens understand how these reforms reduce tax burdens, streamline processes, and protect taxpayers.

Additionally, in ‘The Nation’, she stood up for FIRS amid institutional controversy, vehemently denying rent arrears after another government body closed a FIRS office.

Her assertive rebuttal on social media read:
“FCTA, you goofed big time — FIRS isn’t owing you.”

Through her media efforts, she has significantly bolstered the Service’s public profile and contributed to transparency and taxpayer awareness, vital components in realising FIRS’s strategic goals.

By honouring Arabirin Aderonke with the Executive Chairman’s Award, FIRS not only celebrates outstanding internal performance but also the power of thoughtful communication.

Her writings amplify the Service’s mission, inform the public, and reinforce institutional credibility.

Her rapid achievements underscore the value of combining professionalism with strategic communication in public service.

Congratulations to Arabirin Aderonke Atoyebi, your trailblazing work continues to set a high standard within FIRS and beyond.
