Kaduna Distributes ID Cards to 15,916 Vulnerable Residents, Pregnant Women, Under-Five Children

The Kaduna State Government has rolled out the distribution of identity cards to 15,916 vulnerable individuals, including pregnant women and children under the age of five, as part of a targeted initiative to improve access to essential healthcare and welfare services.

Governor Uba Sani, speaking at the official launch of the programme, said the distribution forms a critical component of the state’s social protection and public health strategy.

The identity cards will serve as proof of enrolment for beneficiaries in government-backed schemes, enabling them to receive free or heavily subsidised healthcare, maternal services, and nutrition support.

According to state officials, the beneficiaries were identified through a structured, community-based data collection process, with priority given to the most disadvantaged households across Kaduna’s local government areas.

This approach, the government noted, will ensure that resources are directed to those who need them most, while also promoting transparency and accountability in service delivery.

The initiative is expected to improve maternal and child health outcomes, reduce preventable deaths, and ease the financial burden on low-income families. The cards will also help streamline administrative processes, making it easier for healthcare facilities to verify eligibility and track service usage.

Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable groups, stressing that no resident of Kaduna State should be left behind in accessing basic services.

He said the distribution would be sustained and expanded to cover more categories of disadvantaged residents in the coming months.

Officials also hinted that the programme aligns with the work of the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), which has been leading efforts to expand health insurance coverage and integrate vulnerable populations into the state’s healthcare system.

By combining identity management with targeted welfare programmes, Kaduna State aims to set a model for how subnational governments can strengthen social protection while building reliable data systems to inform policy-making.
