EKEDC Disowns Badagry Prepaid Meter Distribution Scheme

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has denied any involvement in a purported prepaid meter distribution initiative in Badagry, describing the circulating claims as false and misleading.
In a disclaimer issued via its official X handle on Thursday, August 14, 2025, and signed by EKEDC Management, the company distanced itself from an online publication titled “Hunpe Receives Briefing as 70,000 Prepaid Meter Distribution Kicks Off in Badagry”, dated August 11.
According to EKEDC, the publication claimed the meter distribution was a public-private partnership between the government and DamLaw Energy Concept, allegedly promoted by Messrs. Anthony Adekunle Ogungbemi and Engr. Daniel Adedokun.
However, the company stressed that the individuals and organisation have no affiliation with EKEDC, are not contractors or certified Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), and are not members of its staff.
“All official meter rollout schemes are sponsored by the Federal Government in partnership with relevant stakeholders, led by the DisCos, including EKEDC,” the statement read. “Such initiatives are always preceded by clear communication and public sensitisation detailing the process and rules of engagement.”
The power company advised customers to verify any metering initiative before participation to avoid falling victim to scams. “EKEDC will not be held liable for any loss resulting from unauthorised metering and other electricity transactions,” it warned, urging the public to rely solely on its official communication channels for updates.
