Oyo Teachers Receive Digital Tools to Boost Learning

In a move to modernise classrooms, the Oyo State Government has equipped 18,000 public school teachers with tablet devices, aiming to improve teaching delivery and student learning across all 33 local government areas.
The devices were handed over on Tuesday at Emmanuel College, Agbowo, Ibadan, by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to Makinde, the initiative — supported by the Global Partnership in Education, the World Bank, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board — is designed to give teachers access to preloaded lesson materials, interactive tools, and performance tracking systems.
“This is not just about giving out gadgets; it is about equipping our teachers with modern tools to match global best practices in education,” the governor said. “The tablet is well-packaged with several apps and is meant for all our teachers in this state — 18,000 in all. We are determined to raise the standard of teaching and ensure our children get the best learning experience possible.”
Teachers will attend a four-week training at 16 designated centres to ensure they can make the most of the devices, which will also help track lesson plans, monitor student performance, and provide real-time educational data for policy decisions.
Makinde also highlighted that the 2025 budget allocation for education exceeds UNESCO’s recommended benchmark, reiterating his administration’s commitment to educational transformation.
The Chairman of SUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Suraj Tiamiyu, praised the project’s potential impact, while beneficiary Olufisayo Fajuyigbe, speaking for the teachers, expressed gratitude for the state’s continued investment in education.
