Niger State is Campaign Headquarters for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid, Says Governor Bago

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State has openly declared himself the “self-imposed Director General” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, officially designating Niger State as the campaign headquarters for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a political event in Minna on Monday, Governor Bago reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and strongly criticized what he described as internal efforts to undermine the APC-led administration. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Nigeria’s unwritten rotational power agreement between the North and the South, which he credited for preserving national unity and political stability.

Governor Bago condemned individuals within the APC whom he accused of attempting to destabilize the party after benefiting from years of political appointments and privileges under previous administrations.

Bago argued that the Tinubu administration inherited a range of challenges, including bad roads, failing schools, and underperforming hospitals, and has been actively working to address them.

The governor also highlighted ongoing improvements in security across Niger State, claiming that previously unsafe communities are now habitable and witnessing economic activity.

Bago warned against the use of upcoming state assembly re-run and local government elections to discredit the APC or destabilize the party structure.

He cautioned those attempting to weaponize internal politics for personal gain.

With this public declaration, Governor Bago becomes one of the first senior APC figures to formally align himself with President Tinubu’s 2027 bid, signaling the beginning of early campaign maneuvering.

The speech is seen as both a show of strength and a call for unity within the APC, especially at a time when internal divisions and growing public dissatisfaction pose challenges for the ruling party ahead of upcoming local and national elections.
