Keyamo Clarifies KWAM 1’s Appointment as Voluntary Airport Security Ambassador

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has clarified that the appointment of Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an airport security protocol ambassador is purely voluntary and comes without any financial benefits.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Keyamo emphasized that the role is “akin to community service,” adding that it is “not paid for and it is voluntary service.”
The minister explained that such an arrangement followed the reduction of the artiste’s six-month no-fly ban to one month after KWAM 1 tendered a public apology for his conduct at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) also agreed to withdraw criminal complaints previously lodged.
Keyamo further noted that the term “Ambassador” should not be misconstrued to imply a formal position with perks. “Once you hear the word ‘Ambassador,’ one might assume it’s a big position that comes with perquisites of office. No it is for free,” he affirmed.
He also revealed that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) is considering appointing Ms. Comfort Emmanson another passenger who has shown remorse as an ambassador for good passenger conduct.
Keyamo concluded: “Whilst the usual suspects can continue to question our decisions on this issue, we firmly believe we have been fair to all.”
