Kaduna Aims for Stronger Performance at National Youth Games

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Kumai Gugong, has expressed optimism that the state will surpass its previous achievements at the forthcoming National Youth Games.
Speaking on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kaduna State chapter, Prof. Gugong said preparations were already in top gear, with the full backing of Governor Uba Sani.
“Our preparations are progressing well. Different associations have started selecting the athletes who will represent us, working closely with the Ministry and other key stakeholders,” the commissioner said. “I am confident that Kaduna State will be well represented in the Northwest and that our athletes will perform even better this time around.”
He noted that coaches, sports associations, and ministry officials are working hand in hand to ensure that only the most talented athletes make the team. Kaduna is set to participate in a wide range of sporting events at the Games, with the commissioner stressing the state’s strong record in the Zonal Elimination stages.
Prof. Gugong also identified several venues being considered for the Zonal Elimination, including Murtala Mohammed Square, Ranchers Bees Stadium, and Kaduna State University.
According to him, the Ministry is committed to providing athletes with adequate training kits, comprehensive medical checks, and welfare packages to boost morale ahead of the competition.
Commending SWAN for its role in promoting grassroots sports, the commissioner urged the media to continue spotlighting both the successes and challenges in the sector.
He stressed that sustained publicity would not only encourage private sector support but also inspire more young people to take up sports competitively.
The National Youth Games, an annual multi-sport event designed to discover and develop young talent, is expected to draw participation from all states of the federation. Kaduna State, buoyed by improved preparations and government support, is aiming to make a significant impact at this year’s edition.
