EFCC Dismisses ADC’s Criticism, Vows to Continue Investigations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding its handling of cases involving politically exposed persons.

The EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stated that the commission’s mandate is non-partisan and that it will continue to investigate cases without fear or favor.

The ADC had accused the EFCC of being biased and targeting opposition figures, but the EFCC countered that it is simply doing its job.

Olukoyede noted that the commission has investigated and prosecuted cases involving both ruling party and opposition figures, and that it will not be swayed by political pressure.

“We are not deterred by unwarranted criticism,” Olukoyede said. “We will continue to investigate cases based on evidence and merit, without regard to political affiliation.”

The EFCC has emphasized that its mandate is to fight corruption and financial crimes, and that it will not be intimidated or blackmailed into abandoning its investigations. The commission has also urged Nigerians to ignore political statements meant to divert attention from the real issues of corruption and pillage of the national treasury.

The EFCC’s stance is clear: fraud is fraud, and corruption is corruption, regardless of the perpetrator’s political affiliation. The commission will continue to do its job, upholding its commitment to accountability and probity.
