Yabatech Staff Celebrate Former RECTEM Rector, Stella Mofunanya, for Transformative Leadership

Staff of the School of Arts, Yaba College of Technology, have honoured Dr. Stella Mofunanya, immediate past Rector of the Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), for her leadership achievements and contributions to higher education.

At a “homecoming” ceremony in Lagos, Mofunanya was recognised as the first female Yabatech alumna to head another institution as Rector and return to her alma mater in high esteem.

Dean of Arts, Design and Printing, Dr. Chinyere Ndubuisi, described her as a leader who makes an impact wherever she serves. “She deserves to be celebrated always,” Ndubuisi said.

During her tenure at RECTEM, Mofunanya oversaw the institution’s growth from 52 students to several hundred, secured multiple accreditations for National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and part-time programmes, and established Nigeria’s first wellness centre in a tertiary institution, drawing on her background as a certified naturopathic doctor.

She also represented Nigeria in continental associations of Vice-Chancellors and Rectors and became the first private-institution Rector to serve on the board of the Association of Rectors in Nigeria.

Colleagues praised her for uplifting younger staff, fostering camaraderie, and promoting family values within the workplace.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Mofunanya said she was happy to return to Yabatech and was now taking time for rest and reflection.

“I have no regrets. I went in with a mission and returned with joy. Although private institutions have approached me for new roles, I believe the future is in God’s hands. For now, I’m back home where I started,” she said.
