Police Arrest 3 Suspects in Connection with Kidnapping of AAUA Lecturers

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly linked to the abduction of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The incident occurred on Monday, August 4, when gunmen stormed the victims’ residence along Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
The two lecturers were reportedly taken away at gunpoint.
Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria that the captives were released on Sunday, August 10, following the payment of an undisclosed ransom to their abductors.
Confirming the arrests in a statement on Monday in Akure, the state police spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said the suspects were apprehended during follow-up operations.
“I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of two AAUA lecturers.
The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation,” Ayanlade stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had ordered the transfer of the suspects and all exhibits recovered to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation.
Police authorities say the move is part of renewed efforts to curb a recent rise in abduction cases in parts of Ondo State, particularly in communities around Akoko, which have witnessed repeated attacks by armed gangs in recent years.
