Aiyedatiwa Declares Ondo Closed to Obi–Atiku–Amaechi Coalition

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has dismissed the chances of the emerging opposition coalition led by Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi gaining a foothold in the state, insisting there is “no room” for their political alliance in the South-West stronghold.

Speaking against the backdrop of ongoing coalition talks among key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, Aiyedatiwa said Ondo remains firmly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He stressed that the state’s political direction is anchored on supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda and sustaining the momentum for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“I can assure you that Ondo State is not a playing field for those plotting against the progress we have made under President Tinubu.

We stand united in the APC, and the people of this state are solidly behind our president,” the governor declared.

The coalition—drawing together the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Vice-President and PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi—is in advanced discussions to form a united political front ahead of 2027.

The group has reportedly been weighing options between adopting an existing political platform such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or registering a new party under the name All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

However, the alliance has been plagued by internal wrangling over leadership, zoning arrangements, and party structure. Political observers say these disputes could undermine its ability to mount a credible challenge to the APC, particularly in states like Ondo where the ruling party maintains a firm grip.

Aiyedatiwa’s remarks come as the APC intensifies grassroots mobilisation in the South-West, aiming to secure early strategic advantages ahead of the next electoral cycle.

His outright rejection of the coalition’s presence sends a clear message to opposition strategists that Ondo will not be an easy battleground in 2027.
