NDLEA Arrests Wanted Lagos Pastor for Cross-Border Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church in Okun Ajah, Lekki, Lagos, over his alleged involvement in large-scale cross-border cannabis trafficking.

According to NDLEA officials, the 50-year-old cleric had been on the agency’s wanted list after twice evading arrest by fleeing to Ghana. He was linked to two major cannabis seizures earlier this year, including 200 kilograms of a high-grade strain known as “Ghana Loud” intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, and 700 kilograms recovered from a delivery van on July 6.

Investigations revealed that the consignments were smuggled into Nigeria via waterways from Ghana, with Olasele allegedly coordinating the operations. NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, apprehended him on Sunday, August 3, shortly after a church service ended, ensuring he had no opportunity to escape a third time.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to arranging the shipments and overseeing their transportation into Lagos. The NDLEA has described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cross-border drug syndicates.

The case highlights the agency’s determination to pursue traffickers regardless of status or influence, as part of its intensified War Against Drug Abuse campaign. Olasele is expected to face prosecution after the completion of investigations.
