I’ll End Corruption in 30 Days or Quit as President, Pledges Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, has pledged ahead of the 2027 presidential race to wipe out corruption in Nigeria within his first month in office—or resign. Speaking during a live X Spaces session tagged “Weekend Politics” on Saturday, Amaechi promised a swift and uncompromising crackdown on graft, saying entrenched corrupt structures would be dismantled across all levels of government. “If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation,” he declared. Amaechi also outlined plans to amend the constitution, replacing the indigeneship principle with citizenship to promote unity and equality among Nigerians. He criticised the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and condemned the current fuel subsidy arrangement, insisting that the funds should be paid directly to citizens. His statement comes amid an escalating political feud with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, who has accused Amaechi’s wife of receiving ₦4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Wike has demanded the release of the commission’s forensic audit report and vowed to resign if the findings fail to back his allegations. The former governor’s vow has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters hailing it as decisive leadership, while critics question the feasibility of ending systemic corruption in just 30 days.
