Former Minister of Agriculture and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Audu Ogbeh has died.

 

He passed peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 78.

 

The Ogbeh family announced his passing in a heartfelt statement, describing him as a man of unwavering integrity, dedication, and service to the nation.

 

Chief Ogbeh’s remarkable career spanned multiple fields, including academia, agriculture, and politics.

 

Born on July 28, 1947, in Otukpo, Benue State, he rose through the ranks, serving as Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Federal Minister of Communications and Steel Development, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

 

Ogbeh’s contributions to Nigerian politics and agriculture are immeasurable. He championed agricultural reforms, focusing on food security and rural development. His principled stance against former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term bid showcased his commitment to democratic values.

 

The Ogbeh family appreciates the support of friends, colleagues, and well-wishers during this difficult time. While funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, the family requests privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved patriarch.

 

Chief Audu Ogbeh’s passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
