Abductors of AAUA Staff Demand ₦7 Million Ransom from Family

Kidnappers holding Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have demanded a ₦7 million ransom from his family for his release.
Eleyinmi was abducted earlier this week at his residence in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area, after suspected gunmen attacked and whisked him away. Sources said the kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million but later reduced the sum to ₦7 million.
The abductors allowed Eleyinmi’s wife to speak briefly with him on Wednesday to confirm his safety before communicating the reduced ransom amount on Thursday.
In response, the AAUA Alumni Association has launched an emergency fundraising appeal, urging members and well-wishers to contribute towards meeting the demand. The association stressed the urgency of raising the funds quickly to secure his safe return.
Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the abduction and said the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical teams to rescue the victim without paying ransom. “We are on top of the situation and working to ensure his safe release,” Ayanlade stated.
The incident adds to a worrying trend of abductions targeting academic staff and institutions in the country, underscoring Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
