NYSC DG Charges Outgoing Corps Members to Lead with Innovation, Purpose

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, has urged members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II, who officially concluded their one-year mandatory national service on Thursday, to take on the next phase of their lives with a strong commitment to innovation and leadership.
Speaking during the nationwide Passing-Out Parade, the NYSC DG congratulated the corps members for their perseverance, discipline, and dedication throughout their service year.
He praised their contributions to national development, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development. He emphasized that the experiences they have gathered, especially in unfamiliar terrains and diverse cultural settings, should serve as a foundation for building a better Nigeria.
General Ahmed described the passing-out corps members as critical assets in Nigeria’s quest for transformation. He urged them to step forward boldly, bringing fresh ideas, entrepreneurial skills, and innovative solutions into the country’s economic and social landscape.
“The future belongs to those who dare to innovate. Whether you choose the path of entrepreneurship, academia, public service, or private enterprise, you must be determined to lead with vision, integrity, and ingenuity,” he said.
The Director-General also reminded the outgoing corps members that the NYSC’s vision goes beyond national integration and temporary community service.
According to him, the scheme aims to shape young Nigerians into responsible leaders who can drive positive change wherever they find themselves. He advised them to avoid negative peer influence, maintain the highest standards of ethics, and be good ambassadors of the NYSC.
While reflecting on the impact of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, he encouraged those who participated to continue building on the vocational and entrepreneurial skills they acquired.
He stressed that the current economic realities demand self-reliance and proactive thinking, urging the youths to look beyond white-collar jobs and embrace creativity as a means of livelihood and nation-building.
Across various states, similar ceremonies were held, with state coordinators echoing the DG’s message and celebrating the achievements of corps members during their year of service.
Many of them were commended for their involvement in community-based initiatives, including free medical outreaches, literacy campaigns, and environmental sanitation drives.
As the corps members receive their Certificates of National Service and move on to the next chapters of their lives, the NYSC DG’s message serves as both an encouragement and a challenge: to carry the values of discipline, unity, and service beyond the scheme, and into a wider national context where their creativity and leadership are desperately needed.
The ceremony marks the formal end of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II service year, and with it, a renewed hope that these young Nigerians will become torchbearers for a brighter and more innovative future.
