Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is set to lead an assembly of distinguished guests at the final burial ceremony of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Friday.

The event will also feature the unveiling of a commemorative book titled “How Not to Be a King,” authored in his honor, in Ibadan.

The funeral service is scheduled to take place at Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Aremo, while the book launch will be hosted at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Originally conceived to celebrate the late monarch’s ninetieth birthday and his first coronation anniversary, the book presentation was postponed due to his demise on Monday, July 7, 2025. It will now be incorporated into the post-funeral reception as part of the ceremonial rites for Oba Olakulehin.

The tome chronicles the life and legacy of the late monarch, enriched with personal insights and tributes from family, the Olubadan-in-Council, intimate friends, and associates.

“The family has resolved to proceed with the public presentation of ‘How Not to Be a King’ as a tribute to and perpetuation of the late Oba Olakulehin’s principles and leadership ethos,” the statement conveyed.

The Olakulehin family hopes that dignitaries, traditional rulers, and the public will gather to honor the legacy of a monarch celebrated for his sagacity, humility, and exemplary leadership.

Governor Seyi Makinde is anticipated to spearhead the gathering of eminent personalities and local government officials at the book’s public presentation.

Oba Olakulehin was renowned for his progressive approach to tradition, his advocacy for unity in Ibadanland, and his dedication to education and cultural preservation. His passing signifies the conclusion of a pivotal chapter in the city’s traditional narrative.
