Kwara Government Approves Additional ₦20 Billion for School Infrastructure Upgrade

The Kwara State Government has approved an additional ₦20 billion to support a large-scale upgrade of school infrastructure across the state. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the allocation as part of the state’s 2025 supplementary budget to deepen investment in the education sector.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who disclosed the development, said the intervention would focus on modernizing existing school facilities and bridging infrastructure gaps in both urban and rural communities. According to him, the funds will be used for the construction of classrooms, science laboratories, sanitation facilities, and other learning-support structures. Olohungbebe noted that designs for the projects are currently ongoing and full implementation will commence once the supplementary budget receives final legislative approval. He explained that the initiative is part of Governor AbdulRazaq’s sustained efforts to improve the quality of public education across the state. He recalled that since 2019, the administration has constructed over 1,254 classrooms and revived long-abandoned projects under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) partnership. He added that despite significant progress, there are still critical infrastructure gaps that the government is committed to addressing. The Commissioner stressed that the new ₦20 billion allocation builds on the existing commitment of the administration to create safe, conducive, and equitable learning environments for all schoolchildren in Kwara State.
