Kaduna Approves Fresh Phase of Road Projects, Allocates ₦3.5bn Compensation for Affected Residents

The Kaduna State Government has approved a new phase of road construction projects across various parts of the state, with a total of ₦3.5 billion set aside as compensation for individuals and businesses affected by the developments. Governor Uba Sani granted the approval during a recent State Executive Council meeting as part of efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve road connectivity across both urban and rural communities. According to the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, the state government has already executed over 80 road projects spanning approximately 780 kilometers under the current administration. He stated that the newly approved roads are strategically distributed across the three senatorial districts and are designed to ease movement, boost economic activities, and connect previously underserved areas. Among the roads approved for construction and rehabilitation are the Durum to Kuruntumawa Road in Makarfi Local Government Area, Romi–Karatudu Township Roads in Chikun Local Government Area, and the Kachia to Zonkwa Road, which connects to the new Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia. Others include the Kwoi Township Roads in Jaba Local Government Area, Rigasa Township Roads in Igabi Local Government Area, and the Kayarda Tasha–Kayarda Gari–U/Sarki–Maskawa–Dan Alhaji Road in Lere Local Government Area. Also approved are the Bassawa Junction through Unguwan Rimi to Hunkiyi Junction linking Sabon Gari and Kudan LGAs, the Zango to Asibitin Yara and Musawa Road, and the completion of the abandoned dual carriage road from PAN Drive through Television Garage to Sabon Tasha in Chikun. The Commissioner for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ibrahim Hamza, noted that the projects will help address infrastructure deficits in rural communities and support the state government’s broader rural transformation agenda. In addition to new constructions, the administration has also commenced the revival of previously abandoned road works. These include the Rabah Road from Arewa House to Rigasa Train Station, Sultan to Surame, Dogon Bauchi Road in Zaria, Hanwa Yangoro, and segments of the Kafanchan township road network. Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, stating that the ₦3.5 billion compensation fund will ensure that affected residents are treated fairly and with dignity. Contractors are expected to mobilize to their various sites in the coming weeks, while monitoring teams will be deployed to oversee quality assurance and ensure timely completion of the projects.
