Criminals Shall Not Evade Justice in Imo, Commissioner Assures
The Imo State Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, has declared the state government’s unwavering stance against crime within its borders.
In a discourse with Channels Television during their Lunchtime Politics segment, Emelumba asserted that the security situation in the state has markedly improved, leaving no refuge for malefactors.
Addressing concerns regarding the tragic demise of seven individuals in Ideato North Local Government Area, he remarked, “Indeed, it took some time, but the pivotal aspect is the apprehension of the suspect, and I believe the government deserves commendation for diligently ensuring his capture.”
Regarding the current security status, the commissioner noted that there has been progress compared to previous years. “This does not imply that Imo State is entirely secure. Like any other community, we continue to experience sporadic security breaches.
“This does not, in any manner, suggest a deterioration of the situation. In my view, these incidents are less frequent than in past times,” he further stated.
He reassured the populace that concerted efforts are underway to bring the culprits of the recent homicides to justice.
Addressing the contentious Monday sit-at-home directive, Emelumba declared, “I can affirm that in Imo State, the sit-at-home phenomenon is nearly obsolete.”
He acknowledged that residual trepidation persists among certain citizens, yet emphasized that the government has exerted every effort to assuage public concern.
“We have taken comprehensive measures to assure the residents of their freedom to work on Mondays. I believe they are responding positively. Even in rural areas, some have begun to respond, recognizing their safety,” he observed.
He highlighted that Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration has substantially augmented investment in infrastructure.
“We are undertaking the construction of a monumental flyover bridge, with expenditures reaching into the billions. Additionally, we are developing a Federal Government road, extending from Owerri to the boundary of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Imo,” he articulated.
