ADC Slams APC Over Early Tinubu Endorsements, Cites Disregard for Electoral Law, Worsening Economy

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as premature re-election campaigns for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the party of flouting electoral laws and mocking Nigerians’ hardship with early rallies and billboards.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC condemned what it called a “non-stop victory parade” by the APC, warning that the ongoing endorsements and campaign-style activities violate the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) regulations, which prohibit campaign activities until 150 days to the election.

“While the APC hoists billboards and stages rallies, Nigerians are grappling with runaway inflation, a collapsing naira, and rising insecurity,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that inflation, which hit a 30-year high of nearly 35% last December, continues to burden citizens, with basic costs for food, transport, and rent soaring by over 60% since Tinubu assumed office.

He also pointed to the sharp depreciation of the naira from about N461/\$1 in early 2023 to over N1,500/\$1 and the surge in petrol prices from N185 to over N1,000 per litre, as further evidence of government failure.

The ADC accused the APC of being more focused on retaining power than addressing the nation’s economic collapse and worsening insecurity, especially the growing menace of kidnappings.

“These premature endorsements and unlawful rallies are not signs of strength they are billboards of failure,” the statement read. “When the window opens, we will meet them at the ballot box.”

The party called on INEC to enforce its regulations and urged all political actors to respect the electoral process, warning that the APC’s actions undermine democratic norms and public trust in governance.
