Tinubu Commiserates With Ghana over Ministers Killed in Helicopter Crash

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and six others on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the State House on Thursday, President Tinubu described the incident as a “devastating loss,” particularly highlighting the deaths of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, and Environment Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as a blow not only to Ghana but to the entire West African region.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate helicopter crash that took the lives of some of Ghana’s finest public servants. I send my sincere condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the families of the deceased, and all Ghanaians at this painful time,” Tinubu said.
The President acknowledged Ghana’s important role in regional peace and environmental sustainability, and praised the contributions of the two late ministers in strengthening security and ecological governance within the sub-region.
President Tinubu assured the Ghanaian government of Nigeria’s solidarity during the mourning period and offered support as the country investigates the cause of the crash.
Ghana declared a national mourning period on Wednesday, with flags flown at half-mast in honour of the eight victims of the military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom District. The aircraft, which had departed from Accra, went down en route to Obuasi, killing all on board.
