Police Rescue Stolen Baby in Ekiti, Arrest Woman Behind Abduction

The Ekiti State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen baby and apprehended a female suspect believed to be behind the abduction.
According to the police, the incident occurred in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where the suspect allegedly stole the infant from the mother under false pretences. Acting on intelligence and swift response to a distress call, officers tracked down the suspect and rescued the baby unharmed.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
“The suspect, a woman in her early 30s, lured the mother of the baby under the guise of assisting her with some errands. She took advantage of the moment to disappear with the infant. Fortunately, our operatives acted promptly and were able to trace her to her hideout,” Abutu said.
He added that the baby has been reunited with the family, while further investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect is part of a wider child trafficking ring.
The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Adeniran Akinwale, commended the operatives for their quick action and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around them to law enforcement agencies.
