Ondo Police Launch Manhunt After University Staff is Kidnapped

The Ondo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for the abductors of two individuals, including a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, who were kidnapped in Supare Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state on Monday evening.

One of the victims was identified as Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff of the university’s Faculty of Education. The identity of the second abductee remains unknown as of the time of filing this report.

According to eyewitnesses, Eleyinmi was attacked as he arrived home from work. His wife, who had stepped out to receive him, narrowly escaped the kidnappers as they fired shots into the air before seizing her husband.

“They came in commando style, already lurking around when he returned home,” a source familiar with the incident told the media. “They initially attempted to abduct both the man and his wife, but she managed to flee.”

Police spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stating that one of the victims had been rescued and was being debriefed. He noted that tactical teams had been deployed to track down the abductors and rescue the remaining victim.

“They were attacked while on a motorcycle in Supare. One victim has been rescued; efforts to free the other are ongoing,” Ayanlade said, adding that further details would be released as the operation progressed.

Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Akinpelumi, also confirmed the abduction and said the institution was working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of their staff member.

“The police have assured us that they are actively pursuing the matter. We’re hopeful,” he stated.
