FBI, EOCO Seize Lamborghini from Ghanaian Artiste, Shatta Wale Over Alleged U.S. Fraud Case

A high-profile anti-corruption operation involving Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the U.S. Department of Justice has led to the seizure of a luxury 2019 Lamborghini Urus from Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Armah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.
The seizure followed a request made in 2023 by U.S. authorities, which resulted in a lawful search of the artiste’s apartment located in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra. EOCO operatives from its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) reportedly conducted the operation professionally and without incident.
In a press statement released by EOCO’s acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the agency disclosed that the seized vehicle was linked to criminal proceeds of one Nana Kwabena Amuah, a convicted fraudster currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States.
“The operation… led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus which the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah,” the agency said.
Shatta Wale was said to be in possession of the car and was allowed to surrender it voluntarily. According to the agency, the musician pleaded that the seizure not be made public due to its potential impact on his public image.
“The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale… Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand,” the statement revealed.
The agency also clarified that EOCO operatives were armed during the search, describing it as a standard operational protocol. It further stated that the U.S. government is in the process of submitting a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request for the repatriation of the Lamborghini to the United States as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution.
EOCO also confirmed that both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been classified as persons of interest and are expected to assist in ongoing investigations.
“EOCO may share the final investigations report to the FBI and the Justice Department as part of our ongoing cooperation,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Shatta Wale reacted angrily to the development on Facebook, condemning the EOCO operation.
“Raymond Archer, EOCO Boss, Ibe, you go make NDC go out of power next 4 years. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for,” he wrote.
In a separate post, he added: “EOCO boss, the president of Ghana didn’t put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country. Remember, God no sleep.”
