Adeleke Jets to U.S. for Davido’s Star-Studded Wedding, APC Criticizes Absence
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the much-anticipated wedding of his nephew, global Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The ceremony, scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, in August 2025, was confirmed by Davido during an appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show in April.
Governor Adeleke departed Nigeria a few days ago via the family’s private jet, according to his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
The governor’s trip has sparked criticism from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which questioned his absence from the state at a time of mounting governance concerns.
However, Rasheed, in a statement released on Tuesday, dismissed the criticisms and defended the governor’s journey as both personal and brief.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed said.
In a lighthearted gesture, Adeleke extended an open invitation to members of the opposition to join the celebration, either physically or virtually. “His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family.
Those unable to attend may join virtually,” the statement read.
Rasheed further clarified that the governor has not embarked on any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022.
He stressed that the current trip is brief and that Governor Adeleke remains actively engaged with governance matters.
“For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions,” Rasheed added. He noted that the governor remains in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing state affairs in his absence.
The upcoming wedding of Davido and his longtime partner Chioma Rowland is expected to draw celebrities, dignitaries, and high-profile guests from around the world, cementing it as one of the year’s most talked-about social events.
