32-Year-Old Man Arraigned in Ibadan for Alleged Plot to Kill Governor Adeleke

A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Ifedolapo Gafar, has been arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke. Gafar, popularly known on social media as “Governor Ifedolapo Osun,” is facing a three-count charge of threat to kill, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on July 12 in Ibadan, where the defendant reportedly recorded and circulated a video in which he threatened Governor Adeleke over a rumoured defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In the video, spoken in Yoruba and widely shared online, Gafar allegedly stated that Adeleke would “beg for death” and regret such a move, warning of dire consequences. The charges were brought under Sections 323 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The police prosecutor, Inspector Olufemi Omilana, told the court that the video was capable of inciting violence and disturbing public peace. A petition had earlier been filed by the governor’s Chief Security Officer, CSP Adefisoye Kazeem, and Legal Adviser, Nurudeen Kareem, leading to Gafar’s arrest and arraignment. Gafar pleaded not guilty to all charges. His counsel, Mr. Marvelous Ojeleye, applied to the court for bail in liberal terms, stating that his client posed no flight risk. Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted him bail in the sum of ₦2.5 million with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a blood relative and the other a property owner within the court’s jurisdiction. Gafar failed to meet the bail conditions and was remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan. The case was adjourned until November 13, 2025, for further hearing.
