Peter Obi Reaffirms Commitment to Single-Term Presidency

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his readiness to serve for only one term if elected president, insisting that true transformation is possible within just four years if driven by genuine service.

Posting on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Obi expressed surprise at the level of debate his single-term pledge has generated, questioning why many Nigerians still doubt that meaningful change can be achieved within 48 months under sincere leadership.

“I still find it baffling that my decision to do a term of four years, if given the mandate to rule this country, is generating so much agitation,” he stated. “What drives me is not personal ambition, but a deep commitment to see Nigeria work.”

Obi further distanced himself from any form of political desperation, emphasizing his record of civility, peaceful conduct, and issue-based campaigns. “I have never been involved in thuggery, ballot box snatching, or electoral malpractice,” he noted, challenging anyone to find evidence to the contrary.

He stressed that during his political journey, he has always respected his opponents and never pressured them into unfair competition. “Ask those who have contested against me—none were ever denied their rights or asked to break the bank for visibility,” he said.

Obi believes that with accountable leadership, four years is enough to confront corruption, strengthen the rule of law, and deliver free, fair, and credible elections. “Leadership is not about entitlement. It is about service,” he concluded. “If given the mandate, for just one term, I will dedicate every moment to building a Nigeria that works for all.”
