Cleric Warns Against Envy, Urges Nigerians to Embrace Purpose as Late Fola Achudume Is Honoured

The Lead Pastor of Victory Life Bible Church International, Lawrence Achudume, has called on Nigerians to reject envy and jealousy, describing them as destructive emotions capable of hindering both personal growth and societal harmony.
Achudume made this appeal during the remembrance and thanksgiving service in honour of his late wife, Fola Achudume, held over the weekend. The event also marked the annual gathering of Royal Ladies International, a non-governmental organisation founded by the deceased.
“Envy and jealousy can breed discouragement, bitterness, and conflict,” Pastor Achudume warned. “When we allow these emotions to take root, we get distracted from our purpose and invite unnecessary struggles that hinder progress.”
He emphasized that such emotions often manifest as anger or resentment towards those perceived to be more successful, and urged Nigerians to embrace God’s grace, trust divine timing, and stay focused on their journey.
“Sometimes, God allows pain and challenges because He is preparing us for something greater. His grace empowers us to fulfil our purpose,” he said.
The event — themed “Limitless” — featured a vibrant gathering of women and community members focused on empowering the elderly and widows. Held under the auspices of Royal Ladies International, the programme offered beneficiaries a range of support, including “shop-for-free” access, start-up capital, kitchen utensils, and clothing items.
Speaking at the event, Pastor Dolapo Adelakun of Victory International Church encouraged women to transcend limitations imposed by age, status, or financial struggles.
“Women should not be boxed in by circumstances. You can be limitless. You can grow, evolve, and achieve regardless of what life throws your way,” Adelakun declared.
A highlight of the occasion was the opening of the mausoleum where Fola Achudume was laid to rest, offering guests an opportunity to pay their respects and reflect on her legacy.
The remembrance event served not only as a celebration of Fola Achudume’s life and impact but also as a platform to inspire faith, emotional healing, and community development — particularly for women in vulnerable situations.
