Benue Deploys Drone Surveillance to Monitor Emergencies, IDP Camps

The Benue State Government has unveiled a drone-powered electronic emergency management system to enhance security surveillance and monitor humanitarian conditions in communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the state.
James Iorpuu, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), made this known on Monday during the formal launch of the initiative in collaboration with the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company PLC.
According to Iorpuu, the drone surveillance services will capture real-time images and videos of emergencies and activities within IDP camps, enabling quicker response and improved transparency.
“These drone-enabled situational reports shall henceforth be available to the public on all our digital platforms, ensuring transparency, accountability, and faster mobilisation of aid and partnerships,” he stated.
He urged residents, humanitarian agencies, diaspora communities, and stakeholders to trust and engage the new digital platforms for accurate information, warning against unofficial or politically motivated narratives.
“This platform is built for you, powered by you, and with your support, we shall overcome emergency challenges in our dear state,” Iorpuu added.
He further described the innovation as part of the “Digital Benue” vision, aiming to deliver a smarter, faster, and more collaborative emergency response model.
“With this launch of the Benue E-Emergency Platforms, we proudly position Benue as Nigeria’s undisputed pioneer in digital emergency management,” he declared.
