Wike Fires Back at ‘Double-Faced’ Claim, Defends Role in APC-Led Government

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed accusations of political double-dealing, stating emphatically that his decision to serve in President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) government is based on national interest, not betrayal of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during a live media chat on Monday in Abuja, Wike bristled at a suggestion by one of the interviewers that likened him to Janus the Roman god often depicted with two faces implying duplicity.

“That’s an insult,” Wike retorted. “If I choose to serve Nigeria under this administration, it does not mean I’ve abandoned my principles or my party. This is about competence, not partisanship.”

The former Rivers State governor insisted that he remains a committed member of the PDP and that his role in the APC-led cabinet is in line with the constitutional provisions allowing technocrats and professionals to serve in any government, regardless of political affiliation.

Wike further challenged critics to assess his performance in office rather than dwell on partisan loyalty. “I was appointed to deliver results in the FCT, and that’s what I’ve been doing. Let the work speak,” he added.

The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions and growing calls from some PDP loyalists for disciplinary action over his collaboration with the ruling party.
