Gov Radda Hails D’Tigress on Historic AfroBasket Victory
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their resounding victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
D’Tigress defeated Mali in a thrilling final on Sunday to claim their fifth consecutive continental title an extraordinary achievement that further solidifies their dominance in African women’s basketball.
The team previously clinched the trophy in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, and made available to journalists in Katsina on Monday, Governor Radda described the team’s triumph as “a shining example of excellence, unity, and the relentless spirit of Nigerian athletes, especially women.”
“This latest victory not only cements Nigeria’s position as Africa’s powerhouse in women’s basketball,” Radda said, “but it also proves what is possible when passion, discipline, and hard work meet unwavering national support.”
The governor emphasized that D’Tigress’ success serves as a powerful symbol of national pride, particularly coming on the heels of the Super Falcons’ impressive showing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
According to him, “The wave of pride and celebration sweeping across the country is a reminder of how sports can unite a nation and inspire future generations.”
Governor Radda concluded by urging continued investment in sports development, especially for women, noting that Nigerian athletes are more than capable of making global impact when given the right support and opportunities.
