President Tinubu Congratulates D’Tigress on Qualifying for Fifth Consecutive Final

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, following their remarkable qualification for a fifth consecutive final at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Saturday, President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, teamwork, and enduring commitment to excellence, which have continued to bring pride to the nation on the continental stage.
“The determination and discipline shown by D’Tigress exemplify the true Nigerian spirit. Their consistent dominance in African women’s basketball is a testament to their hard work and the support of all those working behind the scenes,” the President said.
D’Tigress secured their place in the final after a commanding performance against their semifinal opponents, further solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in African basketball. The team now stands just one game away from claiming their fourth consecutive AfroBasket title, having previously lifted the trophy in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
President Tinubu assured the team of the nation’s unwavering support as they head into the final, expressing confidence in their ability to once again bring glory to Nigeria.
“As you prepare for the final, know that the hopes of over 200 million Nigerians are with you. Win or lose, you’ve already made us proud,” he added.
The President also commended the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), the coaching staff, and sports stakeholders for their continued investment in developing the game at both grassroots and elite levels.
D’Tigress will face their final opponents today Sunday 3rd August in Kigali, Rwanda, as they aim to extend their legacy in African women’s basketball history.
