Falcons Ajibade Recounts Humble Beginning, Counsels Youths to be Focused

Captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Atletico Madrid forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, has opened up on her inspiring journey from selling local drinks and Olive oil at church programmes to becoming a continental football star and national team leader.
Ajibade gave her testimony on Saturday during the August edition of the “Power Must Change Hands” programme held at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Prayer City in Ogun State.
Addressing a large congregation of worshippers, the 24-year-old footballer reflected on her modest upbringing and the spiritual resilience that continues to shape her career.
She spoke emotionally about the challenges she faced in her early years and how prayer and faith were constant companions through every stage of her rise.
“I was once one of those young girls out there hawking Olive oil, Kunu, and Zobo drinks at deliverance programmes,” she revealed. “But today, I give glory to God. Please, don’t give up. Keep praying, keep fasting, keep working, and keep believing.”
Ajibade, who led Nigeria to a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, also offered insight into how faith continues to guide her professional journey.
“Whenever things are tough at my club or with the national team, I pray. I do my part through hard work but never forget to seek God’s help,” she said.
The Super Falcons captain was one of the standout performers during the last WAFCON campaign.
Despite scoring just one goal in the tournament, her leadership, creative play, and consistent presence earned her the prestigious Player of the Tournament award, along with three Woman of the Match honours.
Her story, shared from the pulpit of a church where she once hustled to support herself, served as a powerful reminder to many in attendance about the importance of perseverance, spiritual discipline, and self-belief.
In her final words to the congregation, Ajibade urged Nigerian youths not to be discouraged by difficult circumstances. “Your background does not define your future.
Stay focused. Trust God. And never stop working hard.”
Ajibade’s testimony resonated strongly, especially within the Mountain of Fire football community, which has produced several notable athletes over the years. Her journey from the grounds of the MFM Prayer City to international football stardom stands as a testament to faith, discipline, and the power of dreams pursued with consistency.
