El-Rufai Mobilises Support in Sokoto to Challenge APC in 2027

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a grassroots mobilisation campaign in Sokoto State, reinforcing his commitment to building a united opposition coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai, who is a leading figure in the emerging opposition bloc operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), held a series of strategic engagements with political stakeholders, youth organisations, and women’s groups across Sokoto’s 23 local government areas on Saturday.
During the meetings, El-Rufai criticised the APC for what he described as its “incompetent and clannish” governance style, warning that another term under the party could further erode national unity and undermine Nigeria’s long-term stability.
“I didn’t join politics to enrich myself but to serve,” he said. “When a government no longer serves the people, it becomes our duty to act. We must take a stand.”
Explaining the coalition’s choice of the ADC as its platform, El-Rufai said it reflected the group’s desire to rally all progressive forces around a credible, inclusive alternative free of personal ambition or divisive politics.
“If we allow the APC another term, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be beyond repair. This is the fight of our lives,” he added.
El-Rufai expressed confidence in the coalition’s momentum, particularly in the Northwest, noting the strong turnout and enthusiasm from Sokoto residents.
“I am deeply inspired by the energy and commitment of the people of Sokoto. This is how real change begins,” he stated.
Former Senator Abubakar Gada, who also spoke at the gathering, described the ADC-led coalition as a “beacon of hope” for Nigerians in search of competent and people-centred leadership.
The Sokoto visit marks a critical phase of the coalition’s national outreach campaign, with similar mobilisation efforts planned across other northern states in the coming weeks.
