Prosecutors Push for PSG Star, Achraf Hakimi’s Rape Trial

French prosecutors have formally requested that Paris Saint-Germain and Moroccan international footballer Achraf Hakimi face trial over a rape allegation dating back to early 2023.
The development marks a major escalation in a case that has remained under judicial supervision for more than two years.
The request, made by prosecutors in Nanterre, near Paris, follows months of preliminary investigations into the accusation brought by a 24-year-old woman.
The alleged incident occurred on February 25, 2023, at Hakimi’s residence in Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away.
The woman claims she was invited to the footballer’s home after weeks of chatting on Instagram. According to her testimony, Hakimi kissed and sexually assaulted her despite her repeated objections.
She reportedly fled the house and filed a police complaint later that same day.
Hakimi, who has consistently denied the allegations, was charged with rape on March 3, 2023. Though placed under formal investigation, he was not detained and has remained under judicial supervision, with restrictions including a ban on contact with the complainant.
The prosecutors’ latest move now calls for the matter to be referred to trial, stating that the evidence gathered supports the charge and merits a full criminal hearing. If the judge overseeing the case agrees, Hakimi could be formally arraigned and stand trial in the coming months.
His legal team, led by renowned French lawyer Fanny Colin, has described the request as “unjustified and deeply flawed,” arguing that the accusation is part of a broader attempt to extort money from the footballer. They maintain that Hakimi is innocent and that inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s account weaken the case.
On the other side, the woman’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, has welcomed the development, saying the decision shows the seriousness with which the justice system is treating the matter. She reiterated that her client stands by her testimony and has cooperated fully with investigators.
Paris Saint-Germain, Hakimi’s club since 2021, has not made any public comment on the new development but has previously expressed support for the player while also affirming its respect for judicial proceedings.
Hakimi has continued to feature for both PSG and the Moroccan national team since the investigation began, though he has kept a relatively low profile off the pitch.
The case now hinges on the decision of the investigating judge, who will assess whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.
If a trial is ordered, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty under French law.
As the legal process unfolds, the high-profile nature of the case continues to attract international attention, drawing focus not only to the allegations themselves but also to how justice systems handle sensitive cases involving public figures.
