Olumuyiwa Adejobi Promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the promotion of its Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The elevation, approved by the Police Service Commission, marks another significant milestone in Adejobi’s distinguished career in law enforcement and public communication.

The promotion was confirmed on Friday, following recommendations by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who commended Adejobi for his unwavering commitment to professionalism, discipline, and transparency in policing.

Adejobi, who assumed office as the Force PRO on February 16, 2022, has played a pivotal role in reshaping the public image of the Nigeria Police Force through strategic communication, community engagement, and proactive media relations. His appointment to the role was initially made in acting capacity and later confirmed by the former Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba (Rtd).

Born and raised in southwestern Nigeria, Olumuyiwa Adejobi holds a combined honours degree in Archaeology and Geography and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, both from the University of Ibadan. He began his public relations journey in the police force as the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command from 2008 to 2016, and later served in the Lagos State Command and the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

His track record of integrity, clarity, and accessibility has made him a trusted voice for the police and a key figure in rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

In his congratulatory message, IGP Egbetokun urged the newly promoted DCP to “continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and lead by example, especially at a time when trust between the police and the public is crucial.”

The promotion has been widely applauded by stakeholders, civil society organizations, and members of the media, who have praised Adejobi’s efforts to foster transparency and responsiveness in police operations.
