Okpebholo Blames Obaseki for Bad Roads, Pledges Swift Repairs
Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has blamed his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the dilapidated state of roads and infrastructure across the state, vowing to swiftly commence rehabilitation works to boost economic activities.
Okpebholo made the statement during an inspection tour of several failed roads in the Edo Central Senatorial District over the weekend. Roads inspected included the Onewa-Udomi-Ibhiolulu-Afada-Idumoza-Eko-Uwaya-Ewora roads, as well as critical portions of the New Agbor Road and Illushi Road in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.
“Bad roads across Edo State are one of the things I inherited from former Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP during their eight years in power,” he said.
The governor also noted that his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu strengthened his commitment to road repairs.
“The President told us as governors to look into our bad roads and fix them. So I’m going around to implement what Mr. President requested,” he said.
He described Illushi Road as a strategic link connecting various regions, promising that work would commence soon. At New Agbor Road, Okpebholo emphasized its role as a gateway to the eastern region of Nigeria, linking Edo to Agbor, Asaba, and Onitsha.
In addition to the inspection, the governor used the opportunity to launch a door-to-door campaign for the upcoming August 16 senatorial by-election, urging residents to support the APC candidate who will replace him as Senator representing Edo Central.
