The Gombe State Police Command on Saturday concluded the maiden edition of the Inter-Security Agencies Unity Cup, a football tournament designed to foster collaboration, teamwork, and unity among security agencies operating within the state.
The month-long competition reached its climax at the Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe, where the final match between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) drew a large crowd of spectators, including top government officials, uniformed personnel, and members of the public.
After a tense and tactical game, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out, with the police team edging out their counterparts from the NDLEA by five goals to four.
The grand finale was chaired by the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Also present at the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; the Chief of Staff, Government House; the Commissioner for Internal Security and Ethical Orientation; as well as other commissioners and heads of security formations.
Governor Yahaya, in a message delivered through the Deputy Governor, praised the unifying power of sports, noting that the tournament represents more than just recreation.
“This initiative is a reflection of our collective dedication to building a safer, more united Gombe. We are already considering the formation and registration of a strong Gombe Security Football Team, which will serve as a lasting emblem of our inter-agency partnership,” the governor’s statement read.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Makwashi Yahaya, described the Unity Cup as a symbolic demonstration of cohesion among security operatives in Gombe. He commended the discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by all participating teams.
