Former APC North-West Youth Leader, Abubakar Fakai, Resigns from Party Over ‘Deviation from Founding Ideals’

A former North-West Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Sadiq Sa’adu Fakai, has formally resigned from the ruling party, citing what he described as a departure from the party’s founding principles and failure to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
In a resignation letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Mahuta Ward, Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Fakai described his decision as the result of “deep reflection” and “solemn contemplation,” following what he termed a “period of profound introspection and earnest dialogue with my conscience.”
“I have held dear the ideals and foundational principles upon which our party was built — principles that once inspired hope for a more prosperous, united, and accountable Nigeria,” the letter read.
Fakai, who was also a former member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), said the APC has strayed from those ideals and fallen short of delivering on its promises of good governance.
He added that his decision followed extensive consultations with family members, community stakeholders, and constituents, many of whom, he claimed, expressed similar disillusionment with the direction of the party.
“In honour of my conscience and in loyalty to the aspirations of those I represent,” he wrote, “it has become imperative to part ways with the All Progressives Congress at this juncture.”
While he did not disclose his next political affiliation, Fakai extended his best wishes to the APC and urged for peace and progress in Nigeria.
His departure adds to the growing list of defections and internal criticisms that have continued to trail the party in recent times.
