British Man Dies After Hair Transplant Surgery in Turkey

A 38-year-old British man has died following a hair transplant procedure at a private clinic in Istanbul, prompting an official investigation by Turkish authorities.

The man, identified as Martyn Latchman, underwent a five-hour hair transplant surgery at the Cinik clinic in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. Shortly after the procedure, he became seriously ill and was transported to a hospital, where he died soon after arrival.

The cause of death has not been publicly confirmed. However, an investigation is underway to determine whether medical negligence or other factors were involved. Police have questioned several members of the clinic’s staff, including the operating surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurses. The Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate is supervising the inquiry, which may result in charges of reckless homicide.

Latchman’s body has been returned to the United Kingdom.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the risks associated with medical tourism, particularly in Turkey, which has become a popular destination for affordable cosmetic procedures, including hair transplants. Despite the industry’s rapid growth, experts have warned about inconsistent medical standards and inadequate regulatory oversight in some clinics.
