Police Free Law Students Kidnapped on Way to School

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued six law students who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling to the Nigerian Law School in Yola, Adamawa State.
The students, all from Anambra State, were kidnapped by bandits along the Benue-Taraba boundary.
According to the Benue State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, the students were safely released and reunited with their families on Friday morning, August 1, 2025. The police confirmed the rescue, assuring the public of their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N120 million, threatening to kill the captives if their demands were not met.
However, the police were able to rescue the students without paying the ransom.
The abducted students are identified as Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David. They were traveling to Yola for their one-year program at the Nigerian Law School after completing their five-year law degree program.
The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law had demanded urgent action from the Anambra State government and security agencies to rescue the students.
The group’s Board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, emphasized the importance of ensuring the students’ safe return, given their potential value to Anambra State.
