Osimhen Completes €75 Million Move to Galatasaray, Sets Turkish Transfer Record

Victor Osimhen, Nigerian international and one of Africa’s most prolific strikers, has officially completed a permanent transfer to Turkish giants Galatasaray for a record-breaking fee of €75 million.

The move, finalized on Wednesday, marks the most expensive signing in the history of the Turkish Süper Lig.

The deal comes after Osimhen’s exceptional loan spell at Galatasaray during the 2024/2025 season, where he scored 37 goals and provided 8 assists across all competitions.

His performances were instrumental in helping the Istanbul club secure both the league title and the Turkish Cup, rekindling their dominance in Turkish football and boosting their continental ambitions.

According to transfer details, Galatasaray will pay €40 million upfront, with the remaining €35 million structured in performance-based and installment payments by the end of 2026. Additionally, Napoli will receive 10% of any profit from a future sale of the player. A clause in the agreement also prevents Osimhen from being sold to another Serie A club within the next two years, a move designed to limit direct competition for Napoli.

Osimhen has signed a four-year contract with Galatasaray, reportedly earning €15 million per year in net salary. His total earnings are expected to exceed €25 million annually, including bonuses, image rights, and loyalty incentives.

Speaking during his official presentation at Galatasaray’s Türk Telekom Stadium, Osimhen expressed his excitement and emotional connection to the club. “I’m back where I feel loved. Istanbul is home and Galatasaray is family. This is not just a football move — it’s personal,” he said.

The transfer significantly elevates the profile of the Turkish league, which has rarely seen marquee players in their prime join its top clubs for such high figures. Galatasaray officials hailed the acquisition as a major step toward building a team capable of competing deep into the UEFA Champions League.

The 26-year-old forward had been linked to multiple clubs across Europe and the Middle East following his time at Napoli, where he famously led the Italian side to their first Serie A title in over three decades in 2023. Despite interest from Saudi Arabian clubs offering larger salaries, Osimhen opted to remain in Europe and return to Galatasaray, where he had previously been embraced by fans and flourished on the pitch.

His transfer sets a new precedent not only in Turkish football but also in African player valuation globally.

With the new season fast approaching, all eyes will be on Osimhen as he looks to continue his remarkable form and deliver on the lofty expectations that come with his record-setting move.
