Minister Utsev Honours Francisca Ordega for WAFCON Triumph

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has honoured Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega for her outstanding contribution to Nigeria’s recent triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
During a reception held at his office in Abuja, Professor Utsev described Ordega as a source of pride not only for the nation but especially for Benue State, where she hails from. He lauded her dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence, noting that her performance in the tournament reflected the true spirit of the Nigerian athlete.
Presenting a commemorative plaque to Ordega, the minister said her achievements had inspired many young Nigerians, especially girls, to believe in the power of perseverance and hard work.
He expressed optimism that her success story would serve as a model for youth across the country, particularly in Benue State.
Francisca Ordega, visibly elated, expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying it was an honour to represent Nigeria and make her home state proud. She acknowledged the support of fans and stakeholders in Nigerian football, attributing the team’s victory to unity, belief, and relentless preparation.
The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th WAFCON title in July, defeating hosts Morocco in a dramatic final match. Ordega, a key member of the squad, played a vital role in Nigeria’s campaign, showcasing both experience and leadership on the field.
The minister’s gesture adds to the wave of commendations the team has received nationwide, following a historic performance that reasserted Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
