Lagos State University Staff Unions Embark on Indefinite Strike

The staff unions at Lagos State University have begun an indefinite strike over unresolved issues with the university management.
The Joint Action Committee, comprising various unions, announced the decision in a letter to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.
The strike, which commenced on Thursday, July 31, 2025, will remain in force until all staff demands are met. All university staff members and affiliate campuses have been directed to withdraw their services and vacate their official duty posts.
The strike coincides with the scheduled commencement of the 2024/2025 second semester examinations, which were set to begin next week. The unions’ action is expected to disrupt academic activities and cause uncertainty for students.
The specific issues that led to the strike were not detailed in the letter. However, the unions’ demands suggest that there are significant concerns about staff welfare, working conditions, or university governance that need to be addressed by the management.
