FG Disburses Over N20 Billion to 4,362 Primary Healthcare Centres in Northern Nigeria – Health Minister

The Federal Government has disbursed over N20 billion in funding to 4,362 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the past two years, under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
This was made known by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, during an interactive session on Government-Citizens Engagement, organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna on Wednesday.
According to a statement signed by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the funding forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare delivery system, particularly at the grassroots level.
“In the past two years, over N20 billion has been disbursed to 4,362 PHCs across Northern Nigeria,” Prof. Pate announced while addressing stakeholders at the event.
The Minister further disclosed that beyond primary healthcare investments, significant projects have also been undertaken in tertiary healthcare institutions. He noted that 274 projects have been executed across 35 tertiary hospitals in Northern Nigeria, with these facilities attending to more than 4.5 million outpatient visits and 1.6 million inpatient admissions within the period under review.
Pate emphasized that the Tinubu administration is backing its commitment to improving national health outcomes with substantial action, particularly through the deployment of resources toward health infrastructure and services at all levels of care.
“The Federal Government is matching words with action. We are deliberately investing in healthcare infrastructure to enhance service delivery and ensure that no Nigerian is left behind,” he stated.
The interactive session, which drew participants from civil society, traditional institutions, and the health sector, provided a platform for direct engagement between the government and citizens on key developmental issues, particularly in the area of public health.
