Tinubu Swears In Uzor Kalu as South East Commissioner for NASS Service Commission

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Uzor Kalu as the South East representative on the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

The oath-taking ceremony took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Kalu’s confirmation followed Senate approval on May 20, after the adoption of a report by the Committee on Establishment and Public Service. The Senate had earlier reviewed and dismissed a petition filed against his nomination, based on the recommendation of the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.

With this swearing-in, Kalu joins the latest cohort of NASC commissioners inaugurated on May 5, 2025, each serving a renewable five-year term.

Kalu, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives for Aba North/Aba South during the 5th and 6th National Assemblies, is also the younger brother of former Abia State governor and current senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Thursday’s council meeting also included a minute of silence in honour of the late former Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, who died on May 11 at the age of 70.
Following the formalities, the council went into a closed-door session.
