Tinubu Extends Adeniyi’s Tenure as Comptroller-General of Customs

The Presidency has proclaimed that President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Adeniyi’s tenure, originally set to conclude on August 31, 2025, has been prolonged by an additional year, as per a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Thursday.
He stated that this extension would afford Adeniyi the opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms and finalize critical initiatives of the current administration.
According to Onanuga, the reforms encompass the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the fulfillment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
He further noted that President Tinubu acknowledges Adeniyi’s unwavering leadership and dedication to service.
“The President is assured that this extension will fortify the Nigeria Customs Service in fulfilling its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” the statement concluded.
Tinubu appointed Adeniyi as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service in October 2023. He succeeded former CG Hameed Alli in June 2023, initially serving in an acting capacity.
